In 2015 the global accountancy firm Ernst & Young said that they were going to use their in-house assessment programme and numeracy tests. “At EY we are modernising the workplace, challenging traditional thinking and ways of doing things. Transforming our recruitment process will open up opportunities for talented individuals regardless of their background and provide greater access to the profession,” says the company. The World Economic Forum Future of Jobs report argues that emotional intelligence, creativity, and people management will be among the top skills needed for jobs in 2020. “Change won’t wait for us: business leaders, educators and governments all need to be proactive in up-skilling and retraining people so everyone can benefit from the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” the report states.

Weber Shandwick, in partnership with KRC Research, released The Company behind the Brand II: In Goodness We Trust, a second installment in The Company behind the Brand series. The new survey, conducted among consumers and executives across 21 markets worldwide, found that today’s consumers are increasingly expecting companies to deliver well-being to their lives while closely watching how companies behave.

According to the research, one of the leading drivers of corporate reputation among consumers is how good or healthy a company’s products or services are for them and how happy they make consumers feel. One out of two consumers — 47%— say that they frequently discuss how healthy or good company products/services are and how they feel about them. The “good for me” theme helps to drive purchase decisions. Nearly one-half of consumers increasingly buy from companies that make them feel good and happy (46%) and that care about their well-being (43%). In fact, the personal and individual benefits of a product are a prime consideration in driving purchasing decision-making, overshadowing the impact that companies have on a number of social impact factors. This suggests that companies need to do more to integrate CSR messaging with direct consumer benefits messaging.

The research also finds that company responsiveness matters to consumers – 85% of global consumers form opinions about companies based on how companies react in times of crisis. Responsiveness to issues is more important in judging company reputation than what the media says (76%) and what employees say (68%). Proactive reputation risk management has never been more critical than it is today — preparedness is a must, with a plan that ensures agility in mitigating and addressing issues and crises.

The light bulb wasn’t a unique flash of genius. In fact, electric “arc lights” were already in wide use for street lamps, and there was a rush to implement this technology within people’s homes. Edison’s research team tested more than 6000 different materials as filaments for his light bulbs, tirelessly experimenting to discover the perfect mix of availability, price and durability before settling on carbonized bamboo as the most suitable material. They tested more than 30.000 times, before they landed the successful results that lasted. Step 1 “Give up” due to a paralyzing life situation and teething troubles.

I recurrently experience that genuine inventiveness materializes under wearisome constraints. After an existential anxiety-provoking period, defined by fatigue, fear of failure and doubt concerning how to cope and deliver – things go from bad to worse – and suddenly – you are propelled in a novel, surprising direction. The innovative process is tough. It requires time, dedication and an intentioned enduring approach. Unique clear resolutions arise when you have truly wallowed to define your “problematic” for an extended period of time. Identify which psychological restrictions you must shatter to expand your opportunities and lines for action. Implement “The will to suffer”- prepare mentally for the long haul ahead. When you start programing yourself for Innovation, you must let go of some of your habits and habitual ways of doing things and interpreting your world. Innovation is truly about acting in novel ways and your will have to discipline some trust in your own capacity to initiate life in new-fangled directions.

Don’t expect problems to solve themselves – ACT!

If you wait for the perfect vision to hit you, the perfect concept to reveal itself, or someone to “hand it” to you, you’ll be waiting forever. It takes constant thwarting brainwork to foster genuine heart-core ideas and so much more to transmute ideas into something that is truly mobilizing. When you are frustrated and flooded with negativity – START acting, it’s your subconscious pushing you to make “It” happen, keep initiating and doing whatever it is you feel pushed to do, and the novel strategy and inventions will reveal themselves – one day at the time…. It might take several years where you are moving along – doing your thing – suddenly breaking-through – and looking back, acknowledging that you have been circling around your forward concept for quite some time, without realizing. You have been on your way and suddenly your concept Stands-out with piercing clarity, simple to convert into innovative actions with persistent, focused step-by-step, day-by-day investments – from you. Just do it! ……

Step 2: Do something new! Take the first step. Change your perspective.

Oftentimes feelings of being stuck promotes you to act out of your ordinary. In 1995, I invested my last income in an expedition to Pakistan because I was stuck in life – my desperation act landed the invitation to climb Everest. Change the way you’re are a little, and you might ignite something unique. Collect idea fragments. Listen to strange music, take a walk, talk to someone, try to collect various insights that has you seeing your situation in a renewed way. Brainstorm. Rummage the internet for pictures, quotes, research papers, business cases that awakens an interest in you. Collect, keep digging one layer deeper in thinking about what that particular person, event, picture, quote – stirs  in you…. Leave it for some time and come back to what still holds your awareness… It won’t all be clear at first, but it’s important to keep collecting little pieces of the puzzle – without censorship. Read into a certain topic on Wikipedia. Browse Amazon and shop for themes you didn’t realize you were interested in. Do whatever it takes to find sparks, copy paste, write down, no matter how insignificant or incomplete. Before you know it, you’ll have a collection of inclinations to mix and match into what might become your next vast idea. After a creative process, sometimes of considerable length – it will become clear what it is all about for you and momentous energy will start pestering you until you transform that negative restlessness and irritability into action. After initiating the first step to take you out of your predicaments – momentum starts to build from within. Consistently fueled by the brutal fact, that you have no choice, but to shoot in the new direction, if you want to survive professionally in the longer run. It’s still on shaky ground and it is your inner conviction that drives you onward into the unknown, without guarantee of success or financial stability. You must labor on, in spite of doubt and occasional insight that you might be chasing ghosts. Disciplining willpower to focus on the successful outcomes to deal with sprouts of doubt and self-deflation is crucial! The will to suffer – instead of giving up when the going gets rough – It will…………..

The more you act in the altered direction, the more inventive ideas and actions will be released, sparking even more original progressive strategies and activities. Research proves that it might take 3-4 years to excavate a clear heart-core matrix – with the genuine capacity to mobilize whatever it takes – for you to – build to last…..

 

Step3: Thought Leadership Program your brain to get to the top – of your field.  

Unique clear resolutions arise when you have truly wallowed to define your “problematic” for an extended period of time. Identify which psychological restrictions you must shatter to expand your opportunities and lines for action. When you have excavated your unique heart-core matrix – Feast your brain on your focus and start acting – and continue acting in consistency with your narrow focus….. Do not expect a one-off easy victory. It is not going to happen, in spite of our contemporary matrix that cons us into anticipating simple solutions and easy success. Moreover, leaves us feeling like failures and losing faith in our progress, because our initiatives does not make us famous and wealthy overnight. Life is not like that.

Prepare mentally to keep “doing it” until you have accomplished what you set out to do.

Plan pauses for your brain to rewire – and then continue after your downtime with unrelenting stamina. Initiate bold action – again and again and again…..

Live and breathe “The Will to Suffer” – learning the willpower to persevere – no matter what, will get you there. Implement “The will to suffer”- prepare mentally for the long haul ahead. The innovative process is tough. It requires time, dedication and an intentioned enduring approach. When you are infiltrated with your matrix – your subconscious will steer you in unique, focused directions and your stamina will renew itself, when you allow for pauses. Your brain fires, when you act and needs to rewire during the breaks – to be capable of inventing new ideas and actions – over and over again…..

These steps and techniques have helped me discern innovative clarifications and resolutions over the years, turning “back against the wall life situations”, characterized by existential anxiety and fatigue into strokes of “creative genius” in a repeatable process. Human Innovation seems to happen in cycles. Anticipating no stop High performing cutting-edge output – will set us and our business up for failure. Innovation takes time…….

Now, when people ask me how I managed to accomplish what they perceive as so much, I say “Your choice.”

“Valget er dit” – Muligheden for at komme videre…..

Jeg vil jeg lige benytte lejligheden til at tilføje en kommentar til mine oplevelser omkring din bog, “Valget er dit!”. Jeg skrev til dig i sommer, da jeg havde haft enorm stor gavn af din bog i forbindelse med min stresssygemelding, både i processen omkring det at forstå og acceptere, hvad det er, der rent faktisk sker i kroppen og hjernen, at stress og udbrændthed faktisk er en naturlig reaktion på en vedvarende overbelastning, og ikke et tegn på svaghed. Men også i den proces det var, at genfinde og fastholde motivationen, viljestyrken og troen på mig selv og på at jeg kan og jeg vil. Derudover blev bogen som tidligere nævnt mit daglige “træningsredskab”, i genopbygningen af min koncentrationsevne. Hver dag læste jeg indtil koncentrationen begyndte at svigte, nogle dage var der til 10 minutters læsning, andre dage til 20 minutter. Jeg noterede alle tegn på dalende koncentrationsevne ned for hver gang jeg havde læst og hvor længe jeg kunne læse før koncentrationen begyndte at svigte og ikke mindst, jeg noterede at kvaliteten i min koncentration faktisk blev bedre end jeg kunne huske den havde været meget meget længe, selvom intervallet var kort. På den måde kunne jeg gradvis genvinde mere og mere af det tabte tilbage igen. Jeg ved nu, at vejen tilbage er meget længere end jeg på noget tidspunkt havde forestillet mig, og der er mange bump på vejen, men min brug af bogen har alligevel givet mig nogle redskaber, der nu sidder lidt på rygraden, selvom det er en del måneder siden jeg sidst har læst den.

For at gøre en lang historie kort, det jeg vil fortælle dig er, at jeg beskrev kort min gavn af din bog og anbefalede den til en bekendt, som også var havnet i stresssygemelding. Omstændigheder og omgivelser for hende er ganske anderledes end de har været for mig, og vi er to meget forskellige personer. Men hun har bestemt haft lige så stort udbytte af din bog(lydbog), omend dog på en helt anden måde. Ligesom jeg læser/lytter hun den om og om igen, men hvor jeg endte med at bruge bogen som et “redskab” til genetablering af mig selv, forstår på hende at hun finder hjælp i at identificere sig med flere af de tilstande du beskriver i bogen. Jeg skal ikke forklare mig på hendes oplevelser, men jeg synes det er interessant, at vi begge finder enorm stor gavn af din bog, dog på vidt forskellige måder.

Det gør mig faktisk glad (og lidt stolt, hvis man må være det), at have overskuddet til at hjælpe hende, ved at dele de erfaringer jeg selv har gjort mig i min indsats for at komme igen, og samtidig vil jeg også gerne dele denne nye oplevelse omkring bogen med dig, det giver den jo flere dimensioner, alt efter hvem og hvilke øjne og øre der læser elle lytter til den.

Tusind tak for din mail – Jeg er virkelig glad for, at min deling af mine oplevelser også kan være til gavn for dig, og give inputs til dig og eksempler til brug for andre i en lignende situation.

Du må gerne bruge min mail som anbefaling – Min hensigt med at anbefale bogen til min bekendte, var samtidig også at give hende en kærligt skub i retning af selv at tage et valg, om hvordan situationen skal være for hende.

Jeg tænker, at det meget vel er forskellige omstændigheder der driver os hver især til, at arbejde os udover kanten. Men om det er motivation, egne ambitioner, stræben efter resultater og mål, pres fra ledelse eller virksomhed, et dårligt psykisk arbejdsmiljø eller noget helt andet, der får os til, at arbejde os derud hvor vi brænder ud og ikke længere kan holde til det, så er det jo bare enormt svært når man først er faldet, “at rejse sig op, børste gruset af hænderne og knæene og så gå vejen tilbage igen” – Men der kommer jo ikke nogen og går vejen for én, det må man jo selv gøre, og jeg ville gerne have hende til, SELV AT VÆLGE, at rejse sig op, uanset hvis skyld det må være, at hun er “faldet” – Og det tror jeg hun gør – Og samtidig forstår jeg på hende, at bogen giver hende meget mere end det, og en helt anden dimension end jeg forventede, da jeg anbefalede hende den.

Men det er jo netop også det, jeg prøver at minde mig selv om, hver gang jeg selv bliver slået ud af kurs, og må ned og bide i græsset igen – Og det sker jo åbenbart bare flere gange i den proces det er, at komme hele vejen tilbage igen, uanset om man vil det eller ej – Men jeg vælger jo selv, hvordan og hvor lang tid, jeg vil være om, at prøve at komme på benene igen – Og selvfølgelig går jeg også både i panik og bliver frustreret, falder i destruktive tankefælder og er på randen af at miste troen på det hele igen, men jeg bliver også stædig og efter at have været virkelig stædig og ville klare “tingene” selv, så må jeg tage mig sammen og bede om hjælp, der hvor jeg ved jeg kan få hjælp, men det er jo hele tiden op til mig selv, hvad jeg vil gøre for det og så blive ved.

Det blev en lang historie og en masse metaforer – Jeg håber du forstår?

Jeg vil meget gerne bidrage ved at dele oplevelser og erfaringer – Jeg vil være glad, om det vil kunne være til gavn for andre.

Og jeg vil også meget gerne skrive et indlæg i forbindelse med bogen – Det helt ideelle ville jo faktisk være, hvis den kunne være med til, at give andre en forståelse af alvoren i og konsekvenserne af, at presse sig selv og arbejde sig selv udover kanten og brænde ud, INDEN det går galt og INDEN det er for sent, (jeg tænker ofte på, hvad der skulle have været til, for jeg selv havde forstået risikoen ved den måde jeg arbejdede på og var stoppet inden det gik galt – Var jeg fortsat som jeg gjorde, hvis jeg vidste hvad jeg ved i dag??).

Men som vi også “snakkede” lidt om i vores korrespondance fra i sommer, der er jo NOGET i vores omverden, der får os til at gøre det og får os til at blive ved, men det er nok en anden kamp at ændre på.

Tak for din feedback og dine inputs – Jeg synes det kunne være en alle tiders mulighed, at oprette et website, og på den måde prøve at nå ud til andre der kunne få gavn af deling af erfaringer og oplevelser. Jeg tænker jo netop, at der vil være mening i, at vi ikke alle behøver gøre os de samme erfaringer og oplevelser, når det kan have så store konsekvenser for vores velbefindende og den måde vi fungerer på, det er jo en høj pris, både menneskeligt og økonomisk.

Ja, du må gerne klippe mine mails sammen – Det vil være super hvis der kunne komme en slags ressourcebrev ud af det, og det vil kunne give mening for andre.

Tak for dit dias og din beskrivelse, projekt og proces modellen giver faktisk virkelig god mening for mig netop lige nu – Jeg står netop overfor et 2-dages møde, hvor jeg under “gamle” omstændigheder, rent mentalt ville have været 110% PÅ og til stede, fra start til slut og hele tiden have forholdt mig aktivt til samtlige informationer. Nu skal jeg først og fremmest erkende og acceptere status på min egen tilstand lige netop nu, og dernæst skal jeg løbende i de 2 dage, lære at vende tilbage til “Basecamp” i form af et hotelværelse, for at hvile og restituere, mens mine kollegaer og resten af organisationen fortsætter dagens program, for at jeg også kan have det godt og holde til at være med fra start til slut – Jeg mener, hvis “toppen” er at komme hjem fredag aften, med overskuddet i behold efter 2 intensive og gode dage, så er hotelværelset og udendørs arealerne “Basecamp”, der skal hjælpe mig til at lade “batterierne” op og give mig energi til bare at være med, i det omfang jeg skal og kan lige nu – Det giver god mening for mig, og det er lige netop den erkendelse, der kan være lidt svær, men som jeg tænker kan være afgørende på lang sigt, for at kunne holde til og fungere optimalt i de forventninger, mål og ambitioner jeg har for mig selv på den lange bane og ude i fremtiden.

Jeg synes virkelig det giver mening og stof til eftertanke, at nå frem til en form for mental forud-accept af, at livet uundgåeligt vil tage nogle drejninger og at der vil være nogle bump på vejen, som man ikke har forudset og ikke er forberedt på, men samtidig have en plan for at håndtere dem når de dukker op.
